Bart Demaerschalk, MD is a neurologist specializing in research in ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, cerebrovascular diseases, regional stroke systems of care, stroke centers, thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, carotid revascularization, stroke in young adult, patent foramen ovale, arterial dissection, emergency neurology, evidence-based medicine, telemedicine, telestroke, and digital health care. His research approaches include systematic reviews and meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and health economic analysis. He currently serves a Professor of Neurology and as the Chair for the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease at Mayo Clinic. He attended medical school at University of British Columbia before his residency in Neurology at University of Western Ontario where he also completed his fellowship in Cerebrovascular Neurology. Dr. Demaerschalk received his MSc in Clinical Health Research Methodology, Clinical Epidemiology, and Biostatistics at McMaster University.
