Murtaza Amir, MD FAAN

Dr. Amir is double board-certified in both neurology and integrative and holistic medicine. He completed his neurology training at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and completed his two-year fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. Until recently, Dr. Amir practiced as an adult neurologist in Cumberland, MD. He held his own private general neurology practice, managing complex neurological cases and collaborating on patient care with local providers and neighboring academic centers. He has practiced as a consultant neurologist and acted as the president of medical staff at the UPMC Western Maryland Health System for 15 years. In these roles, he established the only certified primary stroke center in 2008 and was involved in local EMS, nursing, and community stroke education. Since then, he has been working to improve stroke and neurological care in rural Maryland.
Along with his clinical responsibilities at TeleSpecialists, Dr. Amir also serves as a regional medical director for various hospitals partnering with TeleSpecialists. In this role, he works closely with the Quality and Process Improvement Team to continuously improve the neurological care provided to our patients. He also works with the Implementation Team, assisting to guide hospitals through a smooth transition from in-person neurological care to a telemedicine platform. When he is not working, he enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with his wife and son.
Dr. Murtaza Amir joined TeleSpecialists in 2019.
