2023 - 2024 Neurology Emergencies

This lecture provides an overview of diagnosis, work up, treatment options and management of neurologic emergencies, specifically for non-neurologists.  The diagnoses discussed include acute ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhages, status epilepticus, myasthenic crisis, Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), Myelopathy, Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), and variations of meningitis.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to;

  • Define neurologic emergency.
  • Describe symptoms and treatment options for at least 3 of the following:
    • Acute ischemic stroke
    • Intracranial hemorrhage
    • Status epilepticus
    • Guillan-Barre Syndrome (GBS)
    • Myasthenic Crisis
    • Myelopathy
    • Cauda equina syndrome
    • Meningitis
