Intravenous thrombolytics is the mainstay of acute therapy in ischemic stroke.  While alteplase has been FDA-approved for this indication since the 1990s, Tenecteplase has recently gained traction for usage in acute ischemic stroke treatment as well.  This lecture summarizes the existing evidence and practical considerations for use of Tenecteplase in stroke therapy.

There is a high rate of recurrent stroke after an ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack.  Identification and early management of modifiable risk factors, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, cardiac disease, behavioral interventions such as diet, physical activity, and smoking cessation have been shown to be effective in secondary stroke prevention.  An interdisciplinary approach toward aggressive management of these risk factors can be effective to prevent stroke in patients.  This activity addresses the treatment approach and discusses secondary stroke prevention.

Acute ischemic stroke is a condition that requires timely recognition to initiate optimal acute stroke therapies, reducing morbidity and mortality.  Posterior circulation strokes, in particular, can be difficult to recognize and are commonly misdiagnosed in the emergency setting.  Join TeleSpecialists' Dr. Benzion Blech, board certified neurologist with a fellowship in Vascular Neurology, to review the mechanisms, signs and symptoms, and management options for posterior circulation strokes.
