2024 - 2025 Strokes / ICH / SAH

The intent of this lecture is to provide a comprehensive overview of stroke, both ischemic and hemorrhagic.  This lecture discusses the common etiologies of stroke, the clinical evaluation of both small and large vessel cerebrovascular accidents, and risk factors.  The presenter will also review acute management techniques, diagnostic studies, and post-thrombolytic management.  The presentation will also discuss cardiac imaging related to stroke diagnosis and treatment, as well as the minimum standard evaluation, work up, and secondary prevention.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to; 

  • Describe common etiologies of stroke. 
  • Distinguish between clinical signs of large and small vessel occlusion strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, and intracranial hemorrhages. 
  • Identify at least 2 diagnostic studies for stroke. 
  • Summarize acute stroke management. 
  • Summarize risk factors for stroke.
